Nagib also showed Spörri a leather file folder that held several documents. Among them was a certificate of authenticity and other documents written in Arabic, as well as an X-ray of the finger. In the 1960s, the farmer’s son had contacted one of his friends at a hospital in Cairo who examined the finger and believed it was authentic. The details on the X-ray corresponded with the shape and proportions of the finger, and this served to reinforce its genuineness.

Despite Spörri’s insistence, Nagib never told him where exactly his ancestors had found the finger but he did mention the existence of a secret chamber beneath the Great Pyramid of Giza.

That room was said to contain a number of massive but empty tombs. Spörri attempted to convince Nagib to sell him the finger but the man made it clear that he would never do so. Instead, he allowed him to take a number of photographs of the bizarre artifact. In one of the photos, he placed a banknote next to the finger to give viewers a chance to assess its size.

After returning from Egypt, Spörri took the photos to several researchers hoping to convince them to investigate the anomaly. As often is the case, he was met with criticism and disbelief. His finding did not fit well inside the accepted views of mainstream science and he decided to pursue the matter himself. He went through numerous ancient texts describing the ancient giants and found many parallels between different accounts.

Spörri discovered that giants are often mentioned in the Bible, the Koran, the Torah and many other religious writings.

In those days there lived giants on the earth, because the sons of God had intercourse with the daughters of men and they bore sons to their community. They were the famous tyrants of old time.”—Genesis 6:4

Giants are also mentioned outside of religious texts. In Antiquities of the Jews, first-century historian Flavius Josephus (37-100 AD) describes them:

There were till then left the race of giants, who had bodies so large, and countenances so entirely different from other men, that they were surprising to the sight, and terrible to the hearing. The bones of these men are still shown to this day, unlike to any credible relations of other men.”

The Sumerian mythology was constructed around the presence of the Anunnaki, a race of giants that came to Earth more than 400,000 years ago. Egyptian depictions of their gods consist of enormous statues; mainstream science tells us this was done in order to outline the gods’ importance and not their actual height.

It seems giant humanoids were a common presence on ancient Earth but nowadays every historian is hellbent on disproving their existence. For many proponents of alternative history, this attitude has been a clear indicator that an ongoing conspiracy is actively covering up any evidence that might confirm giants once existed.

In 2009, Spörri returned to Egypt in search of Nagib and the mummified finger he had shown him. Unfortunately, he was unable to find any trace leading to them. Nagib was old when they first met and it was likely that he died in the 21 years that had passed since their meeting. The farmhouse in Bir Hooker had new tenants who knew nothing about the old man and his forbidden treasure.

This case—along with numerous equally-bizarre ones—serves as a reminder that there are many inconsistencies in the written history we rely on. We think we know our past, but in reality, there is much more to it than we’ve been led to believe.

Today, the subject of ancient giants is regarded as a taboo among mainstream scientists but, as history has shown us, paradigms shift and mentalities change. Maybe the future will bring the much-wanted disclosure. But then again, maybe we’re destined to be kept in the dark by forces we have yet to identify.
