History of the Skinwalker Ranch

The tale of the skinwalker has lived over the Sherman property dating back to a curse placed on the lands by a Native American tribe. Accounts of paranormal activity date as far back as the 1800’s.

“The shaman cursed this ground with this demonic being that can take the form of, people say, a wolf, a coyote or crow or human,”.

In 1996, then-ranch owners, Terry and Gwen Sherman, told the local News about odd activity on their property. They had a hard time putting into words multiple sightings of three different types of UFOs and cattle that either disappeared or were found mutilated. The couple stated:

“For a long time we wondered what we were seeing, if it was something to do with a top-secret project,” Terry Sherman told the Deseret News for the story that appeared in the paper on June 30, 1996. “I don’t know really what to think about it.”

The Skinwalker Ranch Today

The Sherman family sold the ranch to Bigelow Aerospace founder Robert Bigelow, who told the Deseret News in 1998 the odd activity had continued. Bigelow’s nonprofit National Institute for Discovery Science started investigating the lands in ’98. Bigelow told a news source on Aug 10th 98′:

“We wouldn’t be there just for the weather,” and “Should people be fearful of anything from NIDS? Absolutely not, but I think the jury is way, way, way out and a long way from coming back on whether or not we know enough to say that they shouldn’t have something to fear from the phenomena.”

Creatures Reported on The Ranch

Not everything witnessed on the Sherman ranch incorporated UFO sightings. They also claimed to see mysterious large animals like a wolf three times the size of a normal wolf that Terry shot at close range multiple times with a rifle. The wolf suffered no visible wounds and ran off into the woods. On the night of March 12, 1997 shortly after the ranch had been sold, biochemist Colm Kelleher, working with Bigelow’s National Institute for Discovery Science, claimed to see a large humanoid creature spying on the research team from a tree. Kelleher said the creature was approximately 50 yards away, watching the team safely from a tree perch 20 feet off the ground.

“The large creature that lay motionless, almost casually, in the tree,” said Kelleher. “The only indication of the beast’s presence was the penetrating yellow light of the unblinking eyes as they stared fixedly back into the light.”

After Kelleher shot at the creature, it disappeared. He said:

“It was then that I saw it—a single, obvious oval track about six inches in diameter embedded deeply in the patch of snow… It looked unusual: a single large print in the snow with two sharp claws protruding from the rear of the mark going a couple of inches deeper. It almost looked like a bird of prey, maybe a raptor print, but huge and, from the depth of the print, from a very heavy creature.”

Multiple sightings of humanlike creatures have led some to use the name “Skinwalker,” which is a shape-shifting character from Navajo tribal folklore. Among the Navajo, Skinwalkers are creatures that can transform themselves into other creatures by replicating their bodies entirely.

Other Unexplained Sightings

Other strange sightings have occurred directly next door, at Bottle Hollow which was filled with fresh water in 1970 by federal government mandate. In 1998, a police officer saw a large flash submerge into the reservoir and then reemerge, flying off into the night sky. In 2002, four men standing on the reservoir’s shoreline saw a blue-white ball enter the artificial lake. According to the Hunt for the Skinwalker, the glowing ball took a dive into the water, then emerged seconds later in a new shifted form. When it emerged, it was shimmering with a maneuverable belt-shaped shaft of light.

According to Jones, amongst the Utes “springs and certain waterways were reservoirs of negative power… There were evil spirits or evil sprites that would rise up out of the water and drag you in.”

If we believe in the presence of energy, we must also acknowledge the fact that a curse is nothing more than an immense amount of energy created with the intention of causing harm. Whether warranted or not, the Sherman farm or better known as the “skinwalker” ranch still seems to be a site for paranormal activity even after they left. The land was cursed, not the inhabitants in my opinion. Do you believe? Fact or fiction. Drop a comment and let us know what you think about the skinwalker farm.
