The United Arab Emirates Wants To Colonize Mars In 100 Years And They Have The $ To Do It

The Richie Rich of nations unveiled their plan to establish a martian colony by the year 2117.

Last September, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk unveiled his plans to establish a self-sustainable colony on Mars. In order for that to happen, Musk said the human presence on the red planet would need to number a million people.

The general public was enthralled by the cost of a one-way ticket to our next-door neighbor: less than $200,000. Musk envisioned fleets of hundreds of spaceships leaving Earth once every few years and said this could become a reality in 40 to 100 years. But even the most optimistic of space colonization enthusiast could see these figures seemed ridiculously low, both in terms of costs involved and time it would take to establish a functional martian base.

Queue the interest of the United Arab Emirates and their heaps of petrodollars.

In 2014, the wealthy nation laid the foundation of their own space agency and there are already plans to launch a probe destined for Mars in 2021. Recently, they unveiled their interest in creating a “mini-city and community on Mars involving international cooperation” within the span of a century.

Called Mars 2117, this ambitious long-term project seeks to cement the nation’s vested interest into new sectors of industry and technology. The best thing about the UAE’s involvement with space exploration is that they aren’t experiencing the budget cuts or financial distress that plagues NASA and other space agencies. For Pete’s sake, we’re talking about sheikhs with so much money, they’re gold plating their diamond-studded cars just because they can. Those who feel our planet slowly starting to shake us off would agree those petrodollars could be put to a better use. Like setting a foothold on what might become mankind’s next home.

In a recent tweet, UAE prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum showed his nation’s intention of doing just that.

In a recent press release, the UAE describes how they plan to see the enormously-complex mission reach its completion. It would be a global venture spanning several generations but, as Sheikh Mohammed said, “human ambitions have no limits, and whoever looks into the scientific breakthroughs in the current century believes that human abilities can realise the most important human dream.”

A team of Emirati scientists and engineers have already developed a realistic strategy for building the first human settlement on Mars and it involves robots. Long before any colonists set foot on the dusty world, intelligent machines would need to figure out and build power production facilities, farms and generally create a stable, human-friendly environment. And just take a look at the gorgeous concept art:

Like Dubai, but on Mars
Calling this “lavish” would be an understatement.

I , for one, welcome this newfound interest in space colonization. In a time when space agencies with a long history (Russia, China and Europe) are contracting their efforts and seek to conquer territories closer to home (the Moon), it’s refreshing to see new eyes are set on distant worlds. NASA might have high hopes of sending humans to Mars by 2030 but they didn’t have the budget before Trump took office and it’s very likely their funding will be cut and missions redirected so it’s good other players are joining the race.

Scientists Are On The Verge Of Bringing Back The Wooly Mammoth, But Should They?

mammoth resurrection

A team of Harvard scientists claim they could bring back the mighty beast in the form of a mammoth-elephant hybrid but their efforts raise some serious ethical questions.

Should we do something just because we can?

This question has undoubtedly crossed the mind of the scientists leading the woolly mammoth’s de-extinction effort. And since they’re promising the world a living, breathing mammoth hybrid in just two years’ time, their answer was yes, we should.

Probably one of the best symbols of man-driven extinction, the woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) vanished from the face of the Earth around 4,000 years ago. With the help of genetic engineering, the team of ambitious Harvard scientists aims to go against the natural order and reverse this irreversible process. Scratch that, the disappearance of the mammoth was not natural at all. Even though climate change played a part in the mammoth’s demise, early man did the harm and late man now seeks to undo the past.

Our aim is to produce a hybrid elephant-mammoth embryo,” Professor George Church told press. “Actually, it would be more like an elephant with a number of mammoth traits. We’re not there yet, but it could happen in a couple of years.”

The scientific world already has a name for this assembled creature: the mammophant. Part of it is elephant, but it would also exhibit some mammoth-specific traits, such as short ears, fat deposits under the skin and long, rugged hair. It would also be adapted to cold temperatures, just like real mammoths.

The geneticists are able to approach this historic venture with the help of Crispr, the gene-editing tool that could.

“Wait,” you say, “genetic editing has been around for years! They cloned a sheep in the 90’s, right?”

That is true, but compared to CRISPR/CAS9, all previous methods seem clunky at best. That’s because CRISPR is basically a cut/paste precess that allows scientists to manipulate very short DNA sequences with unprecedented precision, as the following video shows:

The project to create a lab-grown mammoth started in 2015 and the team have already come a long way. In their efforts, the scientists stopped at the cellular level but plans for creating embryos are already underway. But since the base for the mammophant is the asian elephant, which is an endangered species, Church said his peers would not put a breeding female at risk by implanting the embryo inside her womb. The mammophant would have to be born without a mother.

“We hope to do the entire procedure ex-vivo (outside a living body),” Church said. “It would be unreasonable to put female reproduction at risk in an endangered species.”

As you would expect, the scientists’ intentions have raised a number of ethical questions and won them a few vocal opponents.

“The proposed ‘de-extinction’ of mammoths raises a massive ethical issue,” University of Manchester Professor of zoology Matthew Cobb commented. “The mammoth was not simply a set of genes, it was a social animal, as is the modern Asian elephant. What will happen when the elephant-mammoth hybrid is born? How will it be greeted by elephants?”

Even before that, the artificial gestation would constitute an early obstacle in raising a functional animal. A lot of connections are made in the womb and their absence could spell disaster.

“Church’s team is proposing to rear the embryo in an ‘artificial womb’ which seems ambitious to say the least – the resultant animal would have been deprived of all the pre-birth interactions with its mother,” Cobb added.

The task of bringing back the wooly mammoth is daunting, to say the least. Obstacles are many and so are those who accuse the scientists of playing God. So what’s the payoff, besides fame and glory?

As it turns out, the creature whose future we ended might help us postpone our own time to come. Or go.

Would you be surprised if I told you mammoths could help combat global warming?

The tundra was the place mammoths called home and now it’s thawing faster than ever. This presents an enormous risk to our environment as large amounts of greenhouse gasses are currently being stored in the tundra permafrost. If those gasses were to be released, things would get much worse in a relatively short period of time. A lot of environmental scientists are saying that we’ve already passed the point of no return and even our best efforts might be in vain, but our duty is to try.

Just by doing mammoth stuff, those lumbering beasts could – at least in theory – slow down this process, as Church explains:

“They keep the tundra from thawing by punching through snow and allowing cold air to come in. In the summer they knock down trees and help the grass grow.”

So there you have it, folks. Turns out we need mammoths to survive. Again.

Amazing Discovery: Basic Ingredients for Life Present on Dwarf Planet Ceres

organic molecules ceres

Astronomers have just detected organic molecules on Ceres, the dwarf planet located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. This marks the first time the building blocks of life were found on what’s basically the largest asteroid in our Solar System.

This discovery was just announced by a team of scientists at the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics. Leading the team was Maria Cristina De Sanctis, who commented that her team’s finding is a world premiere:

We see a lot of interesting chemistry on Ceres andthis is the first time we have seen such a clear [organic] signature on an extraterrestrial body.”

The importance of this exciting discovery is increased several levels of magnitude by the fact that water was also found on the surface of Ceres. Even though the water is in ice form, there is plenty of it to go around. Scientists have recently developed a global map of Ceres and it shows the dwarf planet’s surface is extensively covered in surface and subsurface ice deposits.

ceres organic molecules

Finding organic molecules on Ceres wouldn’t have been possible without the troves of data sent back by the Dawn spacecraft, the space probe NASA launched in 2007 to study the protoplanets Vesta and Ceres.

Using an instrument called a visible and infrared light spectrometer, Dawn performed measurements of the light reflected off the surface of Ceres and established with great accuracy what types of organic molecules were present. Different molecules absorb different light frequencies and that is what allowed scientists to discern what was down there.

While scanning the Ernutet crater, a large impact site located in Ceres’ norther hemisphere, Dawn picked up a very specific signature in the reflected light. This trademark was consistent with a group of organic compounds containing methyl and methylene groups in their molecular structure.

De Sanctis and her team are convinced these organic ingredients are present all around the planet, even though they only looked for them in a crater. While it might be tempting to think the asteroid or comet that left the dent on Ceres brought them there, this isn’t the case. The scientists said the organic molecules formed after the impact since they wouldn’t have survived the immense pressure and temperatures generated by an asteroid hit.

So, it would seem both water and organic compounds might be more common on other planets than we previously thought. Should we raise our hopes of finding alien life in places we never expected? Yes and no.

You see, there is a big difference between organic compounds and organisms. They might sound almost the same, but in scientific lingo, “organic” simply refers to a substance containing carbon atoms. And since the life we know of is carbon-based, there cannot be life without organic molecules. But while the presence of said molecules doesn’t necessarily imply life is also around, it greatly increases the chances though. ESA planetary scientist Michael Küppers explains:

“Because Ceres is a dwarf planet that may still preserve internal heat from its formation period and may even contain a subsurface ocean, this opens the possibility that primitive life could have developed on Ceres itself.”

So is this discovery important or not?

A most definitive yes answers this question. Though it might not prove there are aliens on Ceres, the finding offers invaluable information about our planet’s past and the beginning of life on Earth.

Scientists have determined that terrestrial life began with simple microbes almost four billion years ago, after a period known as the Late Heavy Bombardment. The LHB spanned millions of years during which Earth was a hellscape constantly besieged by a rain of meteorites, comets and asteroids. It is almost certain that Earth’s oceans were formed during this period through the accumulation of surface water from ice-laden comets. But many scientists were uncertain about the origin of organic compounds and wondered if they got here the same way. Now that it’s been established that asteroids indeed carry organic molecules, they have their answer.

Perhaps life itself was delivered to Earth through these rocky vessels but, at the very least, we can be sure the building blocks were brought here this way.

So, yeah, organic stuff on Ceres is a big deal.

Lost Essay Proves Winston Churchill Really Believed in Aliens

Winston Churchill, one of the most influential politicians of the 20th century once wrote an essay on alien life. It was never published but it really should have been.

Just as the humanity was gearing up for the Second World War, Winston Churchill was about to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. But his brilliant mind took a break from devising strategies and for a short while delved into a subject that now interests us more than ever: alien life.

In 1939, the statesman penned an eleven-page essay exploring the possibility of life appearing and evolving on extraterrestrial worlds. And his conclusion is all the more staggering when you consider the fact that it came from one of the world’s most clear-minded men who held positions of power.

With hundreds of thousands of nebulae, each containing thousands of millions of suns, the odds are enormous that there must be immense numbers which possess planets whose circumstances would not render life impossible.” – Winston Churchill

Churchill was an avid reader with vast knowledge on a variety of subjects. He also wrote essays about biology, evolution and fusion power because he enjoyed writing and the pursuit of wisdom.

So why haven’t we heard about his essay on aliens until now and why did it take so long for it to see the light of day?

We can imagine that after writing the essay, Churchill’s attention and energy was directed towards the battlefield; there was a war to fight. But sometimes in the 1950s, he went through his papers and decided to revise it while staying at a publisher’s villa. But somehow it managed to avoid being published and was overlooked until the 1980s, when the publisher’s wife donated it to the U.S. National Churchill Museum.

It was only last year that director Timothy Riley accidentally discovered the essay in the museum archives. Riley realized the importance of his find and enlisted the help of astrophysicist Mario Livio, who was staggered by the futuristic views  and the clarity of ideas expressed in Churchill’s papers.

“To me the most impressive part of the essay—other than the fact that he was interested in it at all, which is pretty remarkable—is really the way that he thinks,” Livio wrote. “He approached the problem just as a scientist today would. To answer his question ‘Are we alone in the universe?’ he started by defining life. Then he said, ‘OK, what does life require? What are the necessary conditions for life to exist?'”

One such condition, Churchill believed, was the presence of liquid water on a planet’s surface. Decades before we even knew exoplanets existed, the man who would later refuse to surrender to Nazi Germany also refused to surrender to the kind of vanity that says we’re special, therefore alone. We might be special, but we’re certainly not alone.

Just like modern hunters for alien life, Churchill suspected water might not be the only medium that sustains life and admitted different types of biochemistries could exist. But he correctly assumed that we should be looking for the type of life we know exists because we wouldn’t know what else to look for.

And he reasoned with great accuracy that said life could only flourish on rocky, Earth-like worlds that managed to keep an atmosphere and orbited their stars in the habitable zone.

Churchill was convinced the sheer size of the universe warranted a mind-boggling number of places that could meet these conditions. And back then, astronomers had more conservative estimates regarding the total number of stars in the observable universe.

The sun is merely one star in our galaxy, which contains several thousand millions of others,” Churchill wrote. “Our sun may be indeed exceptional, and possibly unique but I am not sufficiently conceited to think that my sun is the only one with a family of planets.”

But above all, Churchill was a realist. He knew just how long astronomical distances were and reasoned that even though alien life was possible, contacting such life forms would be impossible with the technology available at that time. Therefore, he wrote that in the near future, mankind’s collective gaze should hit closer to home, in our own Solar System. “One day, possibly even in the not very distant future, it may be possible to travel to the moon, or even to Venus or Mars,” he wrote.

Almost eight decades after the essay was penned, the issues it explores are an obsession for both scientists and the general public. We now know water once flowed on Mars and Venus. We are looking for signs of life in the Solar System and farther away in the cold depths of space. Science will probably give us the answer to one of our most ardent questions, but as Churchill wrote, we should be wary of becoming a purely scientific race.

A humanist in essence, he said that “we need scientists in the world but not a world of scientists.” At all times, science must be “the servant and not the master of man” and for that to happen, our world must be centered on values that stem from a deeper understanding of the human spirit and governed by humans for humans, not against them.

So there’s still a long way to go.

Revised Drake Equation Gives New Hope in the Search For Smart Aliens

drake equation

As it turns out, the number of advanced alien civilizations in our universe could be much, much higher than previously thought.

Five and a half decades ago, following years of research and listening to the cosmos, Dr. Frank Drake and a group of enthusiastic astronomers came up with an equation that aimed to give us a rough estimate of how many active and advanced alien civilizations could be out there.

The famous equation makes use of seven variables (the rate of star formation in our galaxy, the fraction of stars that can form planetary systems, the fraction of said planets that could potentially support life and so on) but many alien hunters believe it to be a bit outdated.

In the half century that elapsed since the equation was first presented, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program managed to amass a trove of data that gave astronomers a new perspective on how the universe looked and behaved. As a result of new parameters being understood, the Drake Equation needed to be adjusted.

frank drake equation
Astronomer Frank Drake and his famous equation.

A new study published in the Astrobiology scientific journal did just that by incorporating recent exoplanet data gathered through Kepler and similar space programs. The study also adds two new notions in the mix: pessimism and optimism and seeks to correlate these factors with the effort to find alien life.

“The question of whether advanced civilizations exist elsewhere in the universe has always been vexed with three large uncertainties in the Drake equation,” study coauthor Adam Frank states.  We’ve known for a long time approximately how many stars exist. We didn’t know how many of those stars had planets that could potentially harbor life, how often life might evolve and lead to intelligent beings, and how long any civilizations might last before becoming extinct.”

In the past few years, NASA’s Kepler satellite measured and photographed tens of thousands of exoplanet candidates, leading astronomers to the solid assumption that one out of five stars has planets in what is called the ‘habitable zone’, the area around a star where water can exist in liquid form and thus create conditions favorable for life to arise and sustain itself.

The scientific world estimates the number of stars in our observable universe to be around 2 billion trillion (2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) so you can already see life has had a great chance to appear elsewhere.

But the two most troubling questions posed by the Drake equation remain unanswerable.

How often does life evolve?

How long does an alien civilization survive for?

Since mankind is still alive and kicking, the last question is particularly difficult to answer and that’s where the optimism/pessimism notions are factored in.

The study authors write that their method only needs to establish the probability of mankind being the only intelligent species to have evolved in our universe. This is the pessimism line.

If the actual probability is greater than the pessimism line, then a technological species and civilization has likely happened before.”

Drawing on SETI and Kepler data, the study established the probability of us being alone at one in ten billion trillion, so chances are high that we really aren’t the sole children of the cosmos.

“Think of it this way,” Frank said. “Before our result you’d be considered a pessimist if you imagined the probability of evolving a civilization on a habitable planet were, say, one in a trillion. But even that guess, one chance in a trillion, implies that what has happened here on Earth with humanity has in fact happened about a 10 billion other times over cosmic history!”

The search for alien life has never been this hot. The groundwork for a multi-million dollar mission to Alpha Centauri is currently being laid out and scientists are outspoken in their optimism for finding alien life. So it appears it won’t be long until we finally have an answer to one of our oldest, most pertinent questions.

Are we alone?

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk Believes Aliens Might Live Among Us, Says He Isn’t One Of Them

musk aliens might live among us

Are you surprised to hear some people are claiming Elon Musk is an alien? Well, the visionary businessman/engineer/inventor said he isn’t one but he suspects aliens might have already infiltrated our society and could be living among us as we speak.

On Monday, Musk was invited to speak at the World Government Summit in Dubai. The topics for discussion included artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles and space travel. You can imagine it wasn’t long before someone mentioned aliens. When asked about the possibility of alien life, Musk gave an honest answer: “Maybe they’re among us.”

I think this is one of the great questions in physics and philosophy,” Musk said. “Where are the aliens? Maybe they are among us. I don’t know. Some people think I’m an alien. I’m not, but of course I’d say that, wouldn’t I?”

Last year, the business magnate’s quirky quotes regarding the universe being a simulation gave rise to a strange theory about his real origins. A lot of people subscribed to the idea that Musk was an alien from another galaxy on a mission to jolt mankind off its path to self-destruction. A funny theory indeed, but it’s not that crazy once you think about it.

elon musk alien
The face of an alien in disguise?

Proponents of this argument claimed that SpaceX is nothing but a front and the company’s efforts to conquer space are guided by Musk’s need to eventually return home.

His plans to colonize Mars have also gone under scrutiny; Musk said he wanted to retire and expire on our next-door neighbor but this was claimed to be merely a ruse intended to distract people while he skedaddled back to his home world.

We’re all going to die someday, and if you’re going to pick some place to die, then why not Mars? If we are born on Earth, why not die on Mars? Seems like maybe it’d be quite exciting.”

Conspiracy theorists even picked on his Gigafactory, claiming that nobody needs such a large structure if all they wanted to do was build better lithium-ion batteries. No, he needed a facade just so that he could build an enormous solar panel array to get the juice to communicate with his alien brethren. I know you’ve read some strange theories on UFOholic, yet this one seems way over the top. But then again, who knows?

At the end of the day, it’s easy to make outrageous claims about a billionaire living as close a life to Tony Stark’s as reality permits. Compared to an Average Joe, his achievements make Musk seem like an alien with knowledge beyond our own. Oh, and by the way, he totally thinks it’s possible that hyper-advanced aliens are a possibility:

“If there are super intelligent aliens out there, then they probably are observing us. That would seem quite likely, and we are just not smart enough to realize it.”

The entire interview is below, but skip to minute 38 if you want to get to the juicy bits.

Astronomers Suspect Exoplanet WOLF 1061c Could be Home to Alien Colony

wolf 1061c exoplanet

A huge breakthrough in the search for alien life is expected as astronomers begin their investigation of a mysterious exoplanet called Wolf 1061c.

The planet Wolf 1061c is of particular interest to alien hunters because of its privileged position relative to its parent star. The exoplanet, which is believed to be at least 4 times as massive as Earth, orbits its star in what is known as the “habitable zone”, a region where it’s possible for water to maintain a liquid form. And since the recipe for life that we know of involves liquid water, the planet’s position could mean that it might harbor life.

Wolf 1061c orbits the red dwarf Wolf 1061 alongside two other presumably rocky planets, all of them larger than the planet we call home. Red dwarfs are small and relatively cool stars. The largest of them are only half the size of our sun and their surface temperature is less than 4,000 degrees Kelvin. Because of this, red dwarfs can maintain the fusion reaction in their cores for far longer than stars like our sun. Since their fuel consumption is lower, red dwarfs can burn for up to 2.5 trillion years. This extreme longevity could give life plenty of chances to arise, adapt and evolve.

wolf 1061c

The Wolf 1061 Solar System presents interest to the astronomical community due to the relatively short distance that separates it from us. In cosmic terms, 14 light years is a stone throw away and this could offer our scientists the unique opportunity to study and who knows, maybe one day even colonize a habitable exoplanet.

Credits for this discovery go to Duncan Wright and his team of astrophysicists at the University of New South Wales. Using data obtained through the HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher) instrument installed on the European Southern Observatory’s telescope at La Silla, they were able to determine the orbits and masses of the planets orbiting Wolf 1061.

Scientists at the San Francisco State University believe Wolf 1061c is one of the best candidates to receive our attention, alongside the now-famous Proxima b, another exoplanet that sits in the Goldilocks zone where water is liquid. But unlike Proxima b, Wolf 1061c is not a waterworld and the presence of landmasses is a good indicator of geological processes that could favor the emergence and development of life.

The Wolf 1061 system is important because it is so close and that gives other opportunities to do follow-up studies to see if it does indeed have life,” astronomer Stephen Kane told media.

Unfortunately for those who are easily excited by news of potential alien worlds, there is no guarantee yet that Wolf 1061c would make a good home for humans or other lifeforms. Although located in the habitable zone, the planet could orbit its star nearer the extremities of this zone. Too close to its star and the water would boil and eventually dissipate into outer space as the planet is stripped by its atmosphere. Too far and the water on its surface would freeze, maintaining its liquid form only in oceans covered by a thick layer of ice.

Currently, Wolf 1061c is number 3 on the list of potentially habitable planets. Due to its proximity, Mars currently holds the top position, followed by Proxima b. With increased interest from the astronomical community, new sets of data regarding this exoplanet are expected to be made available.

Once new details surface we can delve deeper into our imaginative exercises involving alien life, what it might look like and where we could find it.

Witness Spots Orb UFO Disintegrating over Illinois then Reassembling Itself

orb ufo illinois

A unique UFO sighting has turned a skeptic from Illinois into a true believer.

The incident occurred earlier last month in Lake County, IL and was recently reported to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the authority that deals with reports of UFO sightings and encounters. On December 18, at approximately 5:30 PM, the witness was in her back yard when she noticed a peculiar light in the sky. Although it appeared too bright to be a star or planet, the observer ignored it until it began exhibiting a strange behavior.

Thought it was a star or planet, but then it started flashing and then started moving more to my right,” she told MUFON investigators. “Thought it was a satellite, but thought it was too large to be one.”

Intrigued by the movement, flashes and pulses the UFO emitted, the witness took out her phone and zoomed in on the object. This allowed her to see the UFO was actually made up of five smaller orbs rotating around a common center. These orbs then merged to form a single object which then separated into five smaller objects and so on.

orb ufo 5
Photo submitted by the witness shows the UFO is made up of smaller orbs.

The witness claims the orb UFO kept disintegrating and reassembling itself for the better part of two hours before slowly vanishing behind a treeline. Shaken by the experience she could not explain, the witness contacted MUFON and filed a report the following day. She also submitted five photos she managed to take.

The case was examined by MUFON examiner and State Section Director James Wolford, who classified the case as “unknown.” This qualification is given to any incident that cannot be explained through natural phenomena or known technology.

“The complex structure and behavior of the object rules out natural phenomena,” Wolford’s report states. “This was something artificial with technology that may be beyond man-made construction. My disposition for this case is Unknown – Other.”

Skeptics will claim this was just a drone or group of drones with powerful lights but several aspects of the sighting could dismantle this explanation. First of all, the autonomy of commercial drones is still low. Adding powerful lights to a drone would drain the battery life even more and the witness said she was a spectator for two hours and the object was already in the sky by then. Not many drones can stay up in the sky for 3 hours and that still leaves the assemble/reassemble issue open.

No man-made drone can split itself into multiple fragments while flying and still be able to function, let alone reassemble itself. In this particular case, five drones would have been needed to perform the synchronized aerial maneuvers the witness reported. We are now talking about five skilled operators flying the drones during nighttime without crashing into each other, for a long period of time. Seems too hard to pull off.

Another scenario would do away with the human operators in favor of a group of autonomous drones exhibiting swarm behavior. But this would go beyond what the average consumer is able to afford and into research/military territory. And this begs the question: why would the military deploy a flock of drones in the backwoods of Lake County? If panic is their aim, they would have tested them over densely-populated areas. If secrecy be their game, there would have been numerous other places where absolutely no witnesses would have been present.

So the drone hypothesis has shaky knees, it would seem.

orb ufo 3
Zoomed photo shows the 5 orbs have coalesced into one.

However, this playful behavior is usually reported in sightings involving orb UFO. These spheric enigmas routinely act as if guided by intelligence and curiosity, often interacting with one another or the surrounding environment. Most witnesses in orb sightings claim they felt the objects were trying to communicate with them. What message would they convey? Do they choose to appear or are encounters random?

While many are looking for answers to these questions, very few can say whether orb UFOs are living entities or artificial machines. The way they behave and function could support both theories. Since the only blueprint for life that we know involves Earthly organic matter, it would be unwise to think life cannot manifest itself through other mediums. Orbs could very well be living, energetic beings with a will of their own.

Or they could be probes deployed from larger UFOs to investigate the terrain and oversee human activity. No one’s ever caught one so, until somebody does, we are left wondering whether we’re really alone or not.

Pilots Use Lights to Communicate with Supersonic UFO – And It Flashes Back!

supersonic ufo pilots

What started out as a routine flight quickly turned into an incident involving a form of communication between pilots and a supersonic UFO.

Supersonic UFO Flashes Back at Pilots Who Wanted to Communicate

The bizarre sighting took place on the United State’s Atlantic Coast and involved the two pilots of a commercial airliner. On December 26th, while flying above the coastline near Atlantic City, NJ, the pilots noticed a strange light at their 1 o’clock position.

The light showed strong signs that it was actually a moving, physical object with mass and speed and not a celestial object such as the planet Venus. This assumption is supported by the fact that the sighting was reported by experienced pilots with thousands of hours of flight between them. The pilots’ descriptions give out important details, such as the speed and altitude of the UFO and its unconventional behavior.

Under the cover of anonymity, the two pilots reported their sighting to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and the details they provided seem to suggest some kind of intelligence was aboard the unidentified craft.

supersonic ufo

“At first sight the light was approximately at our 1 o’clock position,” one of the pilots told NUFORC. “It moved to 12, 10, 11, back to 12. At that time, the light appeared to move North, then south at a pretty rapid rate. Or I would describe it as closer and further from our position as the size seemed to get larger and smaller. The light ended in the 1st position and then moved out east and once at our 10 o’clock position disappeared.”

The speed of the commercial airliner was approximately 600 mph, so in order for the UFO to appear to be moving as fast as it did, it must have broken the sound barrier. This does not make the sighting stand out in particular, as it is very probable that all UFOs have the capability to reach speeds of thousands of miles per hour. What differentiates this encounter from others like it is the fact that the UFO reacted to the pilots’ attempts to communicate with it.

Intrigued by the flashing light pattern on the UFO, the copilot flashed the airplane lights in a sequence. You can imagine his astonishment when he saw that the craft flashed back at them.

“The other pilot stated he could see an orange/red flash in between the white flashes,” the captain told investigators. “We did flash our lights at it a few times, and the other pilot believes it flashed back in sequence; I felt the return flashes were probably coincidental, but possible. The flashing didn’t really appear to have any pattern. The whole incident lasted a minimum of 10 minutes”

Cases such as this one stand out from the rest, because of the witnesses’ credibility boosts the veracity of their claims. Also, commercial pilots are well-acquainted with the movement of planets and stars, as well as those of flying craft. Using their own instruments, they can assess the speed and altitude of other flying objects, be them other planes or even UFOs.

Although a definitive conclusion is hard to reach, the pilots’ admissions paint a clear picture: on a clear night with good visibility, they spotted an unidentified object performing maneuvers that no known aircraft can perform. It accelerated beyond supersonic speeds and its cornering seemed to defy the laws of physics. It changed its heading and altitude multiple times over the course of ten minutes and most important of all, it signaled back using light when the airplane pilots flashed their lights.

We can only speculate about the UFO’s true form, origin and intentions, but it is obvious it was a machine built with advanced technology and piloted by someone or something possessing intelligence. Whether it was aliens or humans is unclear.

Unfortunately, we have no video of this incident but take a look at the video below for a similar incident involving airplane pilots and a supersonic UFO.

For the past two years, Chilean authorities have been investigating what many consider to be the best video proving the existence and presence of UFOs in our skies. In charge of the investigation was the CEFAA, a Chilean governmental agency tasked with studying UAPs or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.

A panel of academics and military experts have completed the analysis of the notorious video and their conclusion strongly suggests the object was indeed an unidentified flying object, possibly extraterrestrial in nature.

We do not know what it was, but we do know what it was not.” – General Ricardo Bermúdez, Director of CEFAA

So let’s make a short note of what happened during the incident.

On November 11, 2014, a Chilean Navy helicopter was performing a routine mission west of Santiago, along the nation’s coastline. The Airbus Cougar AS-532 was being flown by an experienced pilot. He was accompanied by a Navy technician who was testing a Forward Looking Infra Red (FLIR) camera usually used in reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

The day was clear and visibility was optimal. While cruising at an altitude of 4,500 feet and a speed of 132 knots (152 mph), the technician’s attention was drawn to an object flying above the ocean. The strange object was visible with the naked eye and both men managed to see it.

The technician estimated the UFO’s speed matched theirs and the distance that separated them to be around 40 miles. He then pointed the FLIR camera towards the object and zoomed in.

At the same time, the pilot contacted two radar stations to inquire about the unidentified flier’s nature. Although both stations could see the helicopter on their radar screens, neither could confirm the unusual presence. As is often the case, the Airbus’ onboard radar was also unable to pick up the UFO.

Traffic controllers maintained that no aircraft (civilian or military) had been permitted to enter the restricted airspace the UFO was in. After multiple attempts to communicate with the object failed, the technician focused on keeping his lens on the UFO and in the end, he was able to capture a little over 9 minutes of footage. They stopped their observation of the unusual phenomenon when the UFO disappeared behind thick clouds and they were ordered to return to base.

The video evidence was handed over to the CEFAA and the two witnesses were interviewed by General Bermúdez and CEFAA committee member Mario Avila.

“I was very impressed by these witnesses,” Avila told UFO investigator Leslie Kean. “They were highly trained professionals with many years experience, and they were absolutely certain that they could not explain what they saw.”

The helicopter pilot described the UFO as a “flat, elongated structure with two thermal spotlights like discharges that did not coincide with the axel of motion.” The technician’s report claims the object was “white with a semi-oval shape on the horizontal axis.”

What makes this case especially intriguing is a particular aspect in the object’s behavior. At one point, the UFO ejected “some type of gas or liquid with a high thermal track or signal.”

In the video, you can see the trail of extremely hot material being left behind by the UFO. The following videos capture the object’s behavior in both infrared and High Definition.

The video above shows the UFO discharging the plume of hot gas or liquid. Bizarre, to say the least.

The video below shows the object ejecting hot material for the second time.

For two years, the CEFAA held meetings and deliberated over the true nature of the object captured in the infrared video. Baffled members from various scientific committees were unable to properly explain the incident without invoking UAPs.

While some proposed that the UFO was actually a “medium-haul aircraft” dumping cabin waste water, this hypothesis was quickly invalidated by the the fact that two ground-based radar stations and the helicopter’s onboard radar were unable to pick it up on their screens. Furthermore, no clearance to enter that particular airspace was given to any type of aircraft and no response was received when communication was attempted.

Data gathered from meteorologists showed that no weather balloons were present in the area, not that such a behavior could ever be attributed to a weather balloon. When a weather balloon’s structural integrity is compromised, it simply pops and falls to the ground. judging by its unusual demeanor, the object in the video was clearly something else.

Photo analysis performed by the country’s Air Force established that the object was indeed physical, a three-dimensional body with volume and “control in its movements.” They also concluded it reflected light, was unaffected by strong winds and expelled “some kind of energy.” Their report also states they were unable to find evidence of “alteration of the video by any computer application in the editing and processing of the images.”

It can be concluded that the object has all the characteristics to be classified as an unidentified aerial phenomenon.” – Alberto Vergara, Air Force Photogrammetric Department lead analyst.

Below is the full video of the sighting.

For multiple reasons, this case represents a milestone in the study of UFOs and UAPs. Extensively studied by scores of experts, the Chilean Navy UFO has the potential to set the standard for unidentified object video analysis and could become one of the best pieces of evidence towards proving this is a real phenomenon and not the result of fiction and hoax.

This has been one of the most important cases in my career as director of CEFAA because our Committee was at its best,” General Bermúdez wrote. “I am extremely pleased as well with the conclusion reached which is logical and unpretentious.”

Alien Contact Will Happen by 2060, Claims Futurist Who Worked With Steve Jobs

alien contact

Futurist Dr James Canton believes our lives and perceptions will see a radical shift in the upcoming decades. And we’ll find aliens too.

Dr. James Canton is a world-renowned expert who worked with a young Steve Jobs and he recently shared some of his insight and predictions for the years to come. In his opinion, the rapidly-changing pace of the world will continue to accelerate and our understanding of the universe is set to grow. We might even achieve alien contact.

On the subject of extraterrestrial life, the futurist believes not only it exists, but that we are also on the verge of uncovering details about its presence in the cosmos.

I think the likelihood of finding other forms of life on other planets is very good,” Dr Canton told Express. “We will find between now and 2060 life forms in other parts of the universe and I think that will be very exciting.”

While discovering alien life might be a possibility, the actual interactions with these extraterrestrial beings could prove harder to achieve. At the moment, any signal we send or is sent our way would have to traverse the vast distances between stars and that takes a very long time.

“Whether we’ll be able to share a beer or cappuccino with them remains to be seen,” the futurist said. “I think life is pervasive, we just need to understand the different forms.”

In recent years, the concept of discovering intelligent alien life and then reaching out to said civilization has gained traction like never before. What was once considered taboo or at best, wishful thinking, is now a scientific venture that incorporates some of the world’s brightest minds and businessmen with the capital to back it up.

But like most specialists, Dr Canton agrees we will need to enlist the help of Artificial Intelligence in out search for extraterrestrial life. One of the best ways we could achieve very long distance space travel would be to send intelligent robots to do the exploration work. Once these robots become sufficiently advanced, their specific needs would be much easier to meet than those of humans.

“Artificial Intelligence is the real breakthrough; a breakthrough in machine intelligence and deep learning which are the new forms of AI, which are the way the car or robot can learn,” Dr Canton said.

Another major area that will be vastly improved is our understanding of the human brain and implicitly, the mind that goes with it. As we dig deeper into the mechanisms inside our own skulls, we draw nearer to completing an artificial mind in our own image. Besides building immensely powerful computers, this process will undoubtedly provide us with valuable information about ourselves.

artificial brain

Few people really understand that it’s emerging. One of the big breakthroughs is that we are learning through the use of MRI devices how the brain works. We’re making computers based on the brain.”

Dr Canton’s hypotheses are believable because he’s not some nutjob throwing wild guesses into the wind. For the past decades, he has been making predictions about the future and the vast majority of them turned out to be quite accurate.

Will he be right about alien contact too?

Green UFO has South African Authorities in a State of Emergency

green ufo south africa

South African officials have been put on high alert after dozens witnessed a mysterious green object light up the night sky.

The green UFO made a startling appearance this Monday and was seen by multiple witnesses ranging from civilians to commercial and military pilots. Alarmed by the large number of reports coming in, rescue officials were put on alert.

According to official statements, the incident occurred at around 9:30 P.M. in Jeffreys Bay, a town located in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province. The Traffic Control in nearby Port Elizabeth was immediately notified. In turn, they delegated the National Sea Rescue Institute to monitor the situation and assess the damages, if any.

“A Boeing 737 cargo aircraft Captain and Co-Pilot, flying from Cape Town International Airport to Port Elizabeth International Airport, reported seeing what appeared to be a green object increasing in altitude past the cockpit of their airplane reaching to about a thousand feet into clouds above them and then returning towards earth at high speed past the cockpit of the airplane,” one NSRI official told local media.

Fortunately, there were no reports of missing craft or people.

The most comprehensive description of the event came from the pilot of a commercial airliner who spotted the UFO less than 1,000 feet (300 meters) from his plane. He was able to maintain visual contact for a few seconds before the object completely disappeared.

What intrigues us is the pilot’s statement, which would seem to contradict the meteor hypothesis. They say the object was gaining altitude as it passed them. The object later crashed into the sea. Could this be an indicator that the green fireball was actually a piloted UFO with amphibious capabilities, an unidentified submerged object (USO)?

The green UFO/USO made a single appearance in Jeffreys Bay but it is by far the only time it was seen in the past month.

Just the day before the South African incident, a similar, if not the same object was reported flying over multiple cities in Spain. Witnesses from La Hita, Sevilla, Calar Alto, Sierra Nevada and La Sagra saw a green fiery object traveling at great speed through the night sky.

While there are no pictures showing the green UFO from South Africa, quite a number showing the Spanish fireball were posted on social media.

The Green UFO seen in Spain

Could there be a connection between the two incidents? The distance of 5,000 miles that separates Spain from South Africa could be made by a plane in several hours, let alone a possible UFO capable of interstellar travel.

Taking into account last month’s sightings of similar green fireballs over Japan, Siberia and also other places, is it possible that this increase in unexplained activity in our sky is the work of aliens?

Various UFO enthusiasts seem to think this is the case and they believe the sudden increase in green objects in Earth’s atmosphere could signal the coming of something big.

Authorities cite natural or artificial explanations for these incidents: meteors or space junk burning up in the atmosphere.

But sometimes these explanations are not enough to quell public unrest and the attention is once again drawn to aliens and UFOs.
