Not many people know about the mysterious symbol found in the vicinity of Roswell, New Mexico. The sign is standing on a desolated area and is surrounded by strange symbols and patterns. It only appears like an agglomeration of common lines when seen from ground level, but when you take a look from above, the symbol gains a more complex connotation.

Similar to the Nazca lines, the Roswell symbol can only be interpreted when seen via satellite or from high above, that’s why Google Earth is the perfect tool to take a glance at this unexplained carving. It would have probably passed unnoticed, but because it strongly resembles a swastika, the UFO community thought it would be a good idea to analyze it. That, and because it’s standing relatively close to Roswell.

Several questions come to mind when viewing the satellite images. What is a giant swastika doing in a desolate area near the place where a presumed alien craft had crash-landed? Is there a connection between this swastika and the Nazi, or is it in fact an ancient symbol belonging to a bygone civilization?

At first sight, people have thought the symbol to be related to the Nazi, due to their well-known interest in occultism and UFOs. The possibility of the Nazi developing a secret UFO base in the Arctic where they perfected the gravity propulsion system on flying saucer is extremely likely, and because the SS were obsessed with occultism and ancient mysteries adds even further to the intrigue.

But what are the odds of the Nazi reaching all the way to New Mexico to plant a giant swastika? To better understand this symbolism, let’s have a look at what it represents:

Swastika is a word originating from Sanskrit that translates as “that which is good,” or “all is well.” I know it may sound surprisingly for some of you, but the swastika symbolizes good fortune, luck and positivity in many cultures.

In Hinduism, the swastika is considered a sacred symbol that’s often linked to luck and prosperity. It’s also a good thing for the Buddhists, but also for some Native Americans who used the swastika in ceremonies long before it was utilized as a terror symbol by Nazi Germany. Because of this, it’s likely that what Google Earth reveals in New Mexico is the work of the Aboriginal inhabitants of America.

The ancient Hopi of North America see the swastika as the center of their land, as the point where the four arms of the geographical swastika meet is known as the Center of the World, the Tuuwanasavi. This area is supposedly located a few miles from the Arizona village of Oraibi on the Hopi Mesa. To the Navajo clan, the swastika represents the whirling long – a sacred image envisioning a healing ritual.

In fact, the swastika symbol is so ancient that it predates many of the popular known designs. A recent study has revealed that “the first know archaeological Swastika was ‘Mezine Swastika’, the earliest swastika ever found was uncovered in Mezine, Ukraine, carved on an ivory figurine, which dates to an incredible 12,000 years, and one of the earliest cultures that are known to have used the Swastika was a Neolithic culture in Southern Europe, in the area that is now Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, known as the Vinca culture, which dates back around 8,000years.”

But were the ancients the one that put the giant swastika near Roswell?

An interesting theory speaks of the ‘Roswell Glyphs’ being in close relation to the Second World War, where these symbols were used as target practice by the pilots from the Roswell Army Air Force Base.

Accounts show there are 17 of these swastika symbols scattered throughout the region of New Mexico, and it appears that the air force closely documented them before engaging in bombing them. It’s a well-known fact that different shaped targets are used by the army, and the swastika from New Mexico might had been used for the same thing.

So could it be that the Roswell Swastika isn’t the product of aliens or Nazi after all?

Although the above mentioned theory sounds rational enough, it could be that these mysterious glyphs served in fact a different purpose. If an ancient civilization built them to serve as a pit stop for otherworldly visitors we can only guess, but because the last world war has brought so much destruction upon them, it might be too late for us to understand their true meaning.

Whatever the case, the ancient swastika remains puzzling enough because of its positioning near Roswell, and it may only be precisely interpreted by the Hopi Indians or other local tribes that have preserved the precious knowledge left by their ancestors.
