Boeing’s Hypersonic Jet Could Fly from the U.S. to Japan in 3 Hours

People can agree that flying can be a tedious experience.

For people who avoid travelling due to long hours, you’d be happy to know that a hypersonic plane will cut flight hours more than half.

Boeing, the aircraft manufacturing company plans on building a hypersonic passenger plane in the next couple of decades that would potentially get people from Los Angeles to Tokyo in 3 hours compared to the 11 hours it currently takes.

Basically, this makes the jet fly as fast as Mach 5. Mach 5 flies at about 3800 miles per hour, which allows it to fly at 5 times the speed of sound. Commercial flights currently fly at 500 to 700 miles per hour.

Boeing has challenges they will need to address before their plan can come into fruition.

The company will need to build a tail that can handle the speed of the aircraft and will need to be able to sustain higher altitudes.

Will Boeing manufacture the hypersonic aircraft? The cost will be in the billions if Boeing decides to go through with their plans.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian confirmed Delta’s interest in Boeing 797 but says they are weighing cost efficiency. Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg believes we will be seeing the aircraft become a reality within the next two decades.
