What are the Nazca lines? The Nazca Lines in southern Peru are a group of pre-Columbian geoglyphs etched into desert sands. Covering an area almost as large as the island of Manhattan, there are over 300 different figures including animals and plants that measure up to 30 meters wide! The lines were created using thousands upon thousands of thin lines that can only be seen from high above or on top of nearby hillsides.
The Nazca lines have lied neglected for more than 1,000 years. They weren’t rediscovered until the era of the airplane. They look like giant artworks, but are they? Why do the Nazca lines have mile long lines that they have know way of viewing? There are clues spreading around the geometrical shapes. Portrudiing from the ends of the trapezoids there are mysterious mounds of rocks. Hidden inside, are slabs that look like alters.
Wrapped around them are stone walls littered with crawfish claws, crab skeletons and fragments of mollusc shells. What are all these dead sea creatures doing cemented onto alters 4,000 feet above sea level in a dry barren desert? The shells here seem to be brought here as a ritual for rain.
