Living in a 1st world country has it’s privileges. The convenience of having any food, product or luxury available within close proximity if you live in the city. Now, you don’t even have to leave your house. You can have that meal delivered, your groceries delivered and anything else you want shipped in 2 days or less with Amazon Prime.

At what cost do these luxuries come? What got us here? How is it that we have so much luxury and availability while many children in the world are starving. Many people in the world do not have a meal to eat or a clean glass of water to drink.

The luxuries that we take for granted every single day are coveted by people in 2nd and 3rd world nations.

There is a vast difference in way of living and expectations from commerce between a 1st and 3rd world country. I’ve spent some time living in central America and can speak from firsthand experience that our modern luxuries didn’t come free.

Everything Has a Cost.

Enter John Perkins, American author and former US Government employee. He wrote the book on colonizing 3rd world countries for American profit and exploitation. His book titled “Confessions of an economic hitman” shares what he did for a living to colonize and create corporate value from 2nd and 3rd world nations.

He didn’t do these things in an upstanding and non-threatening way.

How did John Perkins become an economic hitman? He was interviewed by the NSA while still in business school. Instead of joining the NSA he joined the peace corps and worked in the Amazon. He then took a job as an economist in at an international firm in Boston with a firm that had close ties with the CIA and NSA.

He was then trained to be an economic hitman. As a young man he wanted money and power.

He would go to 2nd and 3rd world countries and convince them (through threat, if needed) to take on a loan from the world bank to build infrastructure in their country.

They would then be coerced into selling their resources for pennies on the dollar to American corporations. John Perkins didn’t carry a gun but close behind him were Jackals, assassins. They did.

His first assignment was in Indonesia. They were just coming out of a civil war and were in terrible shape. John was unsure about his assignment and was nervous to finish the job. Claudia, the woman who trained him gave him the training she needed.

He succeeded in the job and sold Indonesia a plan to roll out electricity. They overpaid for the electricity and American companies made out like bandits. John Perkins was promoted.

He was then sent to south america to work on Operation Condor.

The CIA Launches Operation Condor

Operation condor was a US backed campaign to support dictatorships in south American countries. Shortly after a few key leaders in South America mysteriously died when their planes crashed. Many believe that these were assassinations, and not accidents.

John now believes that capitalism is beneficial and useful and has a lot of hope. But this new form of “predatory capitalism” is the enemy of true capitalism.

In 1976 when Milton Friedman won the nobel prize in economics it changed everything. People went from serving their communities and serving the higher good to putting profit above all else. They change the rules to tilt profit in their favor over everything else.

John has since left his job working for the US Government and now speaks on behalf of fairness, justice and equality for companies, corporations and people alike.

John now believes that their is a story behind the story and is a proponent of truth. Read wikileaks, pay attention to Edward Snowden. They are shining a light on these things. John shares that “Democracy depends on transparency.”
